In the August 2019 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about their safety training and procedures to help you protect your greatest asset – your people. Here’s one survey question and its results from the summary report, which is now available in its entirety to EGIA members.
Question: How much does your company spend annually on safety training?
Even though some companies can spend a considerable amount on outside agencies to organize safety programs for large teams and multiple departments, maintaining safety standards doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, investing in safety training can be a cost-effective retention tool when compared to workers compensation claims and hiring costs. 48% of contractors that responded to our survey reported spending $5,000 or less annually on safety training – a small price to pay to protect your most valuable asset.
Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Missouri has to say:
“As an owner of an HVAC company, safety training is paramount! A few years ago, one of my technicians fell off a ladder and we paid out a quarter of a million dollars. That is 20 times the cost of my annual safety training budget.”
