In the March 2021 Snapshot Survey, contractors share their experience with the interview process to help you learn how to incorporate best practices into your contracting business. Here’s one survey question and its results from the summary report, which will be available in its entirety to EGIA members on 4/20/21.

Do you have a standardized list of questions for each role that you ask candidates during the interview process?

EGIA Snapshot Survey - The Interview Process

Utilizing a carefully-chosen standardized list of questions during employee interviews can result in a more objective and efficient process. Contractors that use standardized interview questions typically hire better qualified candidates because it’s easier to make an apples-to-apples comparison of interviewees when everyone has to answer the same questions. According to the contractors who took our survey, 57% of home services companies utilize standardized interview questions for every role, whereas 43% do not.

Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Arizona said in the survey:

“Each position will have a different set of technical questions, but we tend to have a set of scenario questions that we ask all candidates.”
